The Work of the Trust

The Trust is operated independently from any associations or charitable organisations. It is managed by a Board of Trustees and chaired by His Grace the Duke of Somerset.

The Trust has an ongoing programme of building renovation and grounds maintenance 
to ensure the fabric of The College remains in as good a condition as possible for its age. The only exception is the front border of each cottage which is there for the residents to tend and enjoy; many cottages feature a delightful display of small plants as shown in the gallery of photos on this website.

Other Trust Activities


In accordance with the wishes of the Duchess of Somerset’s Will dated 1686, the Trust still carries out charitable work and manages the Reverend Charles Mayo Trust which provides financial support for the education of clergy offspring from Wiltshire. These funds are there to enable deserving students to pursue their education in the UK or abroad.
